From Divine Mother
7/12/2011
Ever feel like your life is like riding a fast seesaw, always going up,down,up,down? It gets old really quick, doesn't it? Duality grinds us down. We submit our battered egos to the proper metaphysician for healing only to find we can't be helped. "I cannot help you," he says. "You're beyond hope of a cure, but there is a another way...transformation! Now THAT I can help you with!" You let him know that, at this point, anything is better than nothing, so you agree to be open to the prescription he's about to recommend. Maybe it will be a relaxing CD filled with musical meditations, or one on self-hypnosis. Sure, why not?
So after being handed a sheet of instructions, you turn to him and say "What's this? Three different sacred mantras for me to repeat with devotion to God is one thing, but to repeat each one 108 times? You're kidding me, right?"
Your teacher says: "That's no joke, is there a problem?"
You say: "Hey, I thought this path was about love, feeling good, and getting blissed out!"
"It is," your teacher responds, "Feeling more love, well being, and even bliss is usually something you experience as a Result of mantra repetition. Also, daily practice of mantras with devotion will gradually expand your experiences of the Divine and you can always add more whenever you like!"
"Actually, you say, "There are probably some advantages to not needing a CD after all."
"That's right," says your teacher, "All you need is an 108 bead mala." Your mantras can be repeated aloud, mouthing the words with your lips, or repeated in your mind silently."
"Great! That's about as portable as one can get for a spiritual practice! I'm looking forward to getting started!"
